Correct measurements are fundamental to any granite project. Measurement errors lead to material waste, additional costs, and delays. This guide helps you take precise measurements for various applications.
Measuring Kitchen Countertops
Measure the length of each section along the wall. Note the desired width, usually 60 cm standard. Mark the exact positions of the sink, cooktop, and faucet. For L-shaped corners, measure both sides and note the exact angle.
Do not forget the backsplash behind the countertop. Standard height is 10-15 cm. Also measure any special cutouts for outlets or pipes.
Measuring Stairs
For stairs, measure the length and width of each tread individually, as they may have slightly different dimensions. Note the riser heights and check if they are uniform. Also measure the railing area if it mounts through the granite.
Measuring Floors
Calculate the total area in square meters. Draw a sketch of the room with all dimensions. Note the positions of doors, columns, and obstacles. Add a minimum of 10% to the calculated area for cuts and waste.
Measuring Windowsills
Measure the length from wall to wall plus 2 cm for insertion. Width is determined from the window to the edge of the interior wall, adding 3-5 cm for the front overhang. Check with a level whether the window openings are perfectly straight.
Required Tools
Use a quality tape measure, pencil, and paper for sketches. A bubble level is essential for checking flatness. For complex projects, a laser measuring device offers superior precision.

Always measure twice before ordering. Photograph the work areas from multiple angles. Clearly communicate all details to your supplier: cutouts, edge profiles, corners, and special connections.
